I collaborated with a diverse set of coastal scientists, including anthropologists, geologists, numerical modelers, and oceanographers to assess how to optimize the placement of dredge material to create wetlands from port expansion in Port Fourchon, LA. This project involves engagement of stakeholders and was supported by various industries in the Partnership for our Working Coast. One of the goals was to assess the many co-benefits of created wetlands including supporting habitat for wildlife and fisheries and promoting carbon capture and nutrient uptake by the coastal wetlands that are dominated by vegetation of smooth cordgrass and black mangroves.
